OPERATIONS & LEGAL CASEWORK MANAGER
F/T 35 hours per week
£22K - £26K
Exciting opportunity working for leading death penalty human rights charity. Amicus is dedicated to fair trials for those on Death Row in the US. We are looking for a dynamic and dedicated Operations & Legal Casework Manager. You should be able to take responsibility for (a) casework management and (b) the daily running and development of this busy human rights charity, with specific responsibility for, inter alia: (i) staff and volunteer management; (ii) overseeing our database systems, donor and membership drives; (iii) delivering high-profile fundraising events and developing our media strategy; and (iv) overseeing the intern programme.
The right person will have demonstrable staff and project management experience, be a qualified lawyer or have a strong demonstrable legal work background, and be confident with public speaking, press and social media. Working closely with the Director and board of Trustees this is a challenging and very rewarding role.
F/T role based in our central London office; basic hours are 10:00 am to 6:00 pm (incl. one hour for lunch) Monday to Friday; occasional evening and weekend work required. Possible flexibility in times (with the potential of some remote working) following the three-month induction period for the right candidate. We are a small team, and everyone pitches in to assist each other when necessary. The role reports to the Director and will supervise and work closely with the Administration Officer and the office volunteers.
NB: If training is required for any of the key responsibilities it will be provided.

Overseeing the day-to-day office administration and management of administrative staff (Administration Officer and office volunteers): including, inter alia:
First point of contact for general enquiries.
Membership: ensuring that the processes are followed.
Biannual training programme: ensuring that the processes are followed, and, when necessary, liaising with speakers and delegates.
Intern programme: ensuring that the processes are followed, and at times liaising with the US offices about their needs (and their support of interns).
Events: working with the Director and the Trustees to design an interesting events’ programme, and ensuring that the preparation, planning and logistics of the fundraising and awareness raising events run smoothly; same for university talks (including for student groups).
Journal: liaising with the Director and the editors about articles and printing.
Casework: Management of busy legal casework programme, working closely with the Director, and the US defence teams, and with the academics involved in many of our projects. This includes: coordinating and briefings teams of lawyers from UK affiliate teams; keeping close links with the US affiliate firms; recruiting new teams; and producing reports.
Supervising the Administration Officer.
Office volunteers: manage the Administration Officer’s overseeing of the day-to-day supervision of office volunteers. Recruit and train new office volunteers.
Finance: oversee data entry and updates using Salesforce and Excel programmes.
Student group programme: oversee this programme, including support for fundraising targets; ensure that the ‘starter kit’ remains current and the ongoing recruitment of new students reps.
Website and social media (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter): working as part of the Social Media Committee to direct and implement social media as needed.
Assisting the Director: ad hoc tasks and work as required.
Skills and Experience
Ability to prioritise a demanding and varied workload.
Strong attention to detail.
Keen to be part of a small, committed team with a willingness to assist colleagues in all areas of the charity’s work when necessary.
High level of IT skills, experience of Excel a necessity and the ability to learn new processes: Office suite in particular.
Knowledge/experience of CMS systems (we use Salesforce).
Ability to manage diary and emails for a third party.
