Why Art for Amicus?

Monday, May 9, 2016

“Prison art is an expression of the human spirit and imagination, just as barbed wire, gun towers and steel bars serve as daily reminders of lost freedom, privacy and human dignity.”
Larry Brewster, University of San Francisco

We are teaming up with Who Decides and Art Reach to hightlight the importance of art to those in confinement. These exhibitions of pieces from artists on death row will be travelling to various venues around the country, peaking with a big event called Art for Amicus in central London on 29th November.

Nicola, the Art Reach coordinator, has written a blog about her project. It offers some background to the exhibition and sheds light on her motivation for curating it - worth a read.
